Since taking office in 2010, Provo Mayor John Curtis has been an energetic presence in Provo, lobbying for innovation and trying to “rebrand” the city’s formerly vanilla image. Among his pursuits has been the push to revitalize the downtown area and, with that, promote the wealth of local music and arts for a more vibrant culture.

That in mind, we asked Mayor Curtis what he’s been listening to this summer. Are many of these songs essentially Top 40 hits from 30 years ago and probably would’ve been included on a “Now That’s What I Call Music” album if such existed in 1979? Definitely. However, there’s no denying these are the classics.

Mayor Curtis described it best when he said, “I still like the good ol’ songs.” Check out the Spotify Playlist below.

“Saturday in the Park” — Chicago
“Big Shot” — Billy Joel
“Joy To the World” — Three Dog Night
“A Horse With No Name” — America
“Surfin’ USA” — Beach Boys
“We Will Rock You” — Queen
“Carry On Wayward Son” — Kansas
“Stairway to Heaven” — Led Zeppelin
“Bridge Over Troubled Water” — Simon & Garfunkel
“Let It Be” — The Beatles
“Killing Me Softly With His Song” — Roberta Flack
“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” — Elton John
“Piano Man” — Billy Joel
